Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was arrested on Friday morning and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide related to a May 10 crash that killed three people.
According to authorities, Hayes, 20, was “traveling at a high rate of speed and maneuvering aggressively through traffic” before his Dodge Durango collided with a Kia Soul in Largo, Fla.
The resulting crash killed all three occupants of the Soul — a 78-year-old and two children aged 10 and 4.
“It was discovered during the investigation that approximately five seconds prior to the fatal crash, Hayes made a rapid and dangerous maneuver, changing lanes from the curb lane to the median lane, crossing three lanes of traffic while overtaking other vehicles,” Largo police said in a statement.
“Moments later, Hayes abruptly re-entered the curb lane, again crossing all three lanes without signaling. At that point, Hayes’ vehicle collided with the 2017 Kia Soul, which was lawfully executing a left-hand turn westbound onto Orange View Drive.”
An adult passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries and survived.
Hayes, a Largo native, turned himself in, according to police, and faces an additional reckless driving charge. He is being held on $350,000 bond, according to Pinellas County Court records viewed by The Post.
The investigation remains active, per Largo police.
Hayes, set to embark on his sophomore season with the Hurricanes, played 12 games in 2024, finishing the season with four tackles and one interception.
