Mamdani’s new NYC antisemitism czar was ‘floored’ by comments condemning Hamas for bombing Israel

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 7, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s new antisemitism czar has a long history of spewing anti-Israel venom — once saying she was “floored” by a social media post condemning Hamas terrorists firing hundreds of rockets at civilian areas in the Jewish state.

Phylisa Wisdom, the executive director of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Antisemitism, ripped remarks made in 2021 by then-mayoral candidate Andrew Yang condemning Hamas for the attacks.

Yang wrote that he and the “people of NYC will always stand with our brothers and sisters in Israel who face down terrorism and persevere.”

Wisdom responded: “As an American Jew and a New Yorker, I am floored by this tweet (although never surprised).”

Her tweet came on May 10, 2021, as Hamas began what would be an 11-day onslaught that killed at least 13 Israeli civilians.

“NYC deserves a mayor who will stand up for Palestinians in the face of state-sanctioned violence,” she posted.

Wisdom also boasted about blowing off the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur.

“I totally missed Yom Kippur this year,” the 39-year-old posted in September 2009. “Oh well, I’ll repent next year??? (What kind of Jew flakes on YOM KIPPUR).”

Wisdom — who describes herself as a “liberal Zionist” who supports a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine — is the former executive director of the lefty organization New York Jewish Agenda, which has criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

It receives funding from far-left kingmaker George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, United Jewish Appeal-Federation of New York and other nonprofits.

Mamdani, a staunch Israel critic, tapped Wisdom Wednesday to lead the MOCA as his first month as mayor was marred by a mind-blowing 182% increase in anti-Jewish hate crimes compared to January 2025 (31 vs. 11).

Critics fear the numbers will get even worse after Wisdom’s appointment.

“At a moment when antisemitic hate crimes are at record levels and disproportionately targeting Jewish New Yorkers, this office demands leadership that unites, not divides,” said a city official who asked to remain anonymous.

“There are thousands of respected, accomplished Jewish leaders in this city who bring credibility and consensus to the table. Choosing someone surrounded by controversy undermines this crisis and weakens public trust in an office meant to combat hate”

State Assemblyman Kalman Yeger, a Brooklyn Democrat who is Jewish, said Mamdani “should have” made a better choice but “doubts” the socialist mayor “could have.”

“Who in their right mind takes a job to supposedly fight antisemitism for a mayor who markets in antisemitism?” he said.

Wisdom replaced Moshe Davis, who former Mayor Eric Adams named executive director when creating MOCA in May.

The Post revealed last week that Davis, in a Dec. 30 report, warned the incoming Mamdani administration to install bollards and take other security measures at houses of worship nearly a month before maniac Dan Sohail allegedly rammed his car into the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn.

Davis said he’s troubled by the Wisdom pick.

“Liberal Zionists often give too much space to anti-Israel rhetoric, believing their progressive values require them to hold their own people at arm’s length,” he told The Post.

“They’ll say it’s because they care about everyone equally. But caring for everyone equally while refusing to care for your own family first isn’t kindness — it’s self-erasure.”

The mayor in a statement called Wisdom a “principled and effective leader in the work to confront antisemitism in New York City and beyond.”

“I look forward to working alongside her to both build a city where Jewish New Yorkers are safe, seen, and able to thrive and to build a team that reflects the diversity and strength of our Jewish communities across New York,” he said.
