Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu is expanding her business portfolio.
Ionescu is the newest investor in the Bay FC, the NWSL club announced Monday.
Ionescu, who’s from Walnut Creek, Calif., will serve as a “commercial advisor” to the club.
Not only will the WNBA champion help Bay FC with commercial strategy but she’ll also help players who want to expand their brand endorsements, according to the release.
Ionescu said she’s “excited” to join the NWSL team, who’s starting its second season later this month.
“I have full faith in the Club’s vision and its potential to make a profound impact within and beyond women’s soccer,” Ionescu said in a statement. “The Bay FC team and I look forward to driving branding partnerships for the Bay FC athletes and contributing to the overall success of the Club. As someone with deep ties to the Bay Area, this opportunity holds even more significance, and I am truly honored to be a part of such a special endeavor to continue to grow women’s sports.”
At only 27, Ionescu has already built up an impressive business footprint.
The 2024 Olympic gold medalist’s newest sneakers, the Nike Sabrina 2’s, are the second-most worn shoe in the NBA last month, according to KixStats.com. Ionescu also has deals with Body Armor, Fanatics, AT&T and Michelob Ultra among others.
Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart called Ionescu the “ultimate innovator” and lauded her for creating new paths to success for athletes both in and outside of sport.
“Adding her passion and vision to what we are building at Bay FC will allow us to further disrupt the sports landscape,” Stewart said in a statement. “Her roots in the Bay Area and commitment to being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports represents who we are at Bay FC. We look forward to partnering with her to continue reaching our goal of being a top global sports franchise.”
Bay FC will open its regular season March 15 against Utah Royals FC.
