Through Bronny James’ three-year career in the NBA, he’s been under scrutiny and criticism.
Wednesday was no different.
Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Kwame Brown said: “It’s mind-blowing how somebody lost a job to that.”
Brown was likely referring to the Lakers’ decision to keep James over former 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht.
A day before the Lakers excused the two of them from attending practice on October 19.
James has since spent most of the season on the Lakers bench, playing in four games and averaging 2.8 minutes, and has scored only one point this season.
The rest of his career hasn’t fared much better as he’s averaging 2.6 points in an average of 7.8 minutes.
“Some kid that worked their butt off that really feels like they could have made the NBA, lost their job to that,” Brown said. “The only reason why everybody’s okay with it is because of his father.”
Brown went on to say what he’s seen from James is a shame.
“Call it hate, call it whatever you want. To me, it’s a shame,” Brown said.
James is playing his first season in the NBA without his father LeBron James.
Playing as a backup, Bronny James is part of a Lakers bench that nearly blew a 14-point lead with 1:43 left in the game against the Toronto Raptors on Monday night.
“I won’t make that mistake again,” Lakers head coach JJ Redick said after the game to Khobi Price of The California Post. “I’ll leave the guys in. You gotta play to the final buzzer, and if guys are not ready to play, then I just won’t put them in.”
