Station 19 alum Danielle Savre is celebrating her boyfriend Kevin McKidd’s 18-year run on Grey’s Anatomy.
“I love you,” Savre, 37, wrote via Instagram comment on Wednesday, March 25, after McKidd announced his departure from the medical drama. “You made this chapter unforgettable, and I know what is ahead will be even more beautiful ❤️.”
News broke earlier on Wednesday that McKidd, 52, and on-off Grey’s Anatomy love interest Kim Raver would be leaving the long-running series at the end of season 22.
“18 seasons. 18 years. That’s a fair stretch of a man’s life,” McKidd, who played Dr. Owen Hunt from seasons 5 to 22, wrote in his social media statement. “I came over just hoping to get a shot … and somehow found a home. A family. A place that’s shaped me more than I probably realize yet.”
He continued, “Playing Owen Hunt has been one of the great privileges of my career, in front of the camera and behind it. I’m deeply grateful to [Grey’s Anatomy creator] @shondarhimes for trusting me with him. Long before any of this, I was just a young actor from Scotland, grafting. Wondering if it was ever going to happen. Taking the knocks, the rejections … all of it.”
McKidd also advised any young actor dealing with rejection to “keep going.”
“You never quite know where it’s leading,” he added. “The work you’re putting in, quietly, when no one’s watching, it does count. So this is a goodbye … for now. It’s time to build something of my own from the ground up. To tell new stories, and take everything I’ve learned here into the next chapter.”
McKidd further remarked that he has nothing but pride for his Grey’s tenure.
“I’m really proud of what we’ve built. To the crew, you’re the heart of it. My love and deep thanks,” he said. “To the cast, I love you all. … And finally, to the fans, thank you for sticking with us, for caring as much as you have.”
In the midst of McKidd’s appearances on Grey’s, he crossed paths with Savre via the series’ Station 19 firefighting spinoff that aired from 2018 to 2024. McKidd and Savre were first romantically linked in June 2023 after the Scottish actor settled his divorce from Arielle Goldrath.
McKidd and Goldrath, 38, were married from 2018 to 2022, during which period they welcomed two children.
“I don’t often share my personal life on social media, but today there is something I do want to share with you,” McKidd, who also shares two older kids with ex-wife Jane Parker, wrote via Instagram in June 2022. “A few months ago, Arielle and I decided to end the marriage portion of our relationship. We reached this conclusion after much soul-searching and discussion. We know it’s what is right for both of us.”
He continued at the time, “We have been able to redefine our lives and love for each other in a beautiful way. It’s not been easy and has taken significant work and self-examination. It has all been worth it to get to where we are now: a deep and honest relationship as parents and real friends with an amazing shared history, beautiful children and family.”
