Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines are stronger together — even in the gym.
While the couple is no stranger to collaborating on various projects, including their Magnolia empire, the former HGTV stars now find themselves breaking a sweat simultaneously.
“There’s really no shortage of us doing things together,” Joanna, 46, joked in the latest issue of Us Weekly, on newsstands now. “But what I’ve loved most about this new rhythm of working out together is that it’s new and different for us, but it’s also been interesting to see that the way we show up for each other in our little garage gym is the same way we always have at the office, or with a new project.”
As documented on Instagram, Joanna and Chip, 50, started training with Don Saladino in September 2024.
After a few months, the editor-in-chief of Magnolia Journal said she’s “never felt stronger.”
“Getting to encourage each other to show up well, to work hard and do our best is how we’ve always worked together in business,” Joanna told Us, “so it’s been fun to see how our relationship is just consistent, no matter what we’re tackling.”
Married since 2003, Chip and Joanna share kids Drake, 20, Ella, 18, Duke, 16, and Emmie, 15. In June 2018, the former Fixer Upper stars welcomed their fifth child, son Crew, now 6.
As their kids become more independent, Joanna and Chip find themselves with a little more time on their hands to try something new and different together.
“That’s part of where working out came in, and we also just started taking dancing lessons, which is another fun and hilarious thing for us to do,” Joanna said. “Really, just continuing to find new ways to partner up is what keeps us strong, so we’re having fun with what that looks like this season.”
In this stage of life, Joanna is also celebrating the launch of her new children’s book. Titled The World Needs the Wonder You See, the whimsical picture book allows readers of all ages to embark on an adventure through nature’s small surprises.
With vibrant illustrations by Julianna Swaney, the story aims to inspire families to pause their busy schedules and explore the world around them.
“In the first few years of [Crew’s] life, I took my foot off the gas for the first time in what felt like forever, and in the years since, Crew has continued to break through my tendency toward busy and hurry,” she told Us. “He is constantly reminding me to look up.”
As the first day of spring approaches, Joanna vows to continue celebrating the beauty around her. And yes, she will continue to break a sweat alongside her forever partner.
“For us, we’ve learned that encouragement really goes a lot farther than accountability, and that’s exactly what we’re doing with working out or I don’t think either of us would have made it very far,” Joanna shared. “And it’s the same at work, just encouraging each other to keep moving forward, keep dreaming, keep pushing ourselves.”
