John Harbaugh delivered another big shakeup at running back Tuesday..
The Giants released Najee Harris, just two days after Harbaugh benched Cam Skattebo and Harris appeared to be in line for the starting role.
Harris was the first running back in the game, but he received just four carries for two yards in the Giants’ 34-27 loss to the Saints.
After the game, Harris complained about his role, telling reporters that he needed more reps to get into the flow of a game.
“It’s hard to get into a rhythm with one or two plays…if you’re getting a play here and then get taken out for a series, there’s nothing you could do. I’ve never been through none of this before,” Harris told reporters despite a brutal 91 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.2 YPC).
With Harris off the roster, the Giants are left with Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary in their backfield.
Harris had signed with the Giants just before the season started after Jaxson Dart took a nasty hit on a missed pass block from Tracy Jr.
The former Steeler hasn’t provided much for the team since his arrival and Tracy Jr. did a strong job in pass blocking on Sunday.
Harbaugh added that he doesn’t like the idea of splitting up carries between all of the guys.
“Nobody has really taken the bull by the horns,” Harbaugh explained after the loss.
With Harbaugh sending a clear message to Harris and the rest of the room, look for them to attempt to add someone, even a depth piece, this week.
Tracy Jr. stood out from the rest of the group, totaling 45 total yards and two touchdowns on eight touches.
Look for Skattebo to get back into the mix this week and Tracy Jr. to potentially have a bigger role going forward on passing downs.
