Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office weighed in on rumors that rapper Nicki Minaj could join the White House as press secretary â reviving a months-old beef with the MAGA-friendly ‘Beez in the Trap’ songstress.
White House staffers appeared to float Minaj, 43, as a candidate for press secretary after Katie Zacharia lasted just five days in the role before hightailing it back to California.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” posted White House director of communications Stephen Cheung on X, attaching a video of Minaj of praising President Donald Trump’s work ethic and business acumen.
The Trinidad-born diva spent Sunday at a Michigan rally for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and gubernatorial candidate John James, joining Trump onstage to declare she’ll support him “forever and ever.”
Newsom’s office, which has previously sparred with Minaj, posted “We can only pray” in response to the chatter about the rapper joining the White House.
Minaj repeatedly blasted the California governor earlier this year, referring to him by Trump’s appointed nickname: “Newscum.”
“He does not want to do anything credible with his time or life,â the Queens-raised artist said at a January 2026 event promoting Trump Accounts.
She later said she was driven to support Trump partly because Newsom “completely ignored” her as she dealt with criminal swatting incidents at her Beverly Hills home in 2022 and 2023.
Minaj claimed she reached out to the governor on X and through aides following swatting incidents at her $20 million home, but he didn’t respond.
âHe just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,â she told Time.
It’s not clear how serious the White House staffers are about the possibility of Minaj as press secretary. Reached for comment, a White House spokesperson referred The California Post back to Cheung’s post.
White House advisor Alex Bruesewitz chimed in Sunday, posting on X: “Hey Barbz, what do we think about this idea??”
“Here for it!” one Minaj fan account replied.
“She has spent years navigating difficult interviews, public scrutiny, and competing narratives. Those are transferable skills in political communications. Sheâs perfect!” wrote another X user.
Minaj herself seemed tickled by the idea, quote-tweeting Cheung’s post with American flag and nervous laughter emoji.
