The Tony Award nominations are here, celebrating what has been, by any measure, a remarkable season of Broadway. Forty-two productions debuted on the Great White Way over the course of the 2024/’25 season, including 14 new musicals, 14 new plays, and 14 revivals (half of them plays and half musicals). That’s a lot for Broadway — outpacing the previous season’s 37 total shows and the 38 from 2022. Now, it’s time for those 42 shows to face off. A selection of nominations were broadcast on May 1 on CBS Mornings at 8:30 a.m. ET; the rest were announced by Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce on the Tony Awards’ official YouTube page at 9 a.m. ET on May 1.
Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, and Maybe Happy Ending led the pack on nominations morning, with ten nominations for each musical. John Proctor Is the Villain and The Hills of California led the plays with seven nods. Next up, Cynthia Erivo hosts the June 8 ceremony broadcast on CBS.
