WASHINGTON — President Trump told The Post in an exclusive Oval Office interview that he’s skipping this year’s Super Bowl — and that he can’t stand the performers selected for the halftime show.
Trump said that he wasn’t pleased that Latin rap superstar Bad Bunny and recently announced addition Green Day, both of whom are critics of the president, were selected to entertain at the widely watched Feb. 8 NFL championship in San Francisco.
“I’m anti-them. I think it’s a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible,” Trump said.
The president said, however, that the musicians aren’t his reason for skipping the game.
“It’s just too far away. I would. I’ve gotten great hands for the Super Bowl, they like me,” Trump said.
“I would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter.”
Bad Bunny was born in Puerto Rico and has an immense Spanish-language following.
The King of Latin Trap has been openly critical of Trump, including releasing a song last year, “Nuevayol,” that featured an imitated Trump voice saying: “I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. . . . This country is nothing without the immigrants. This country is nothing without Mexicans, Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Cubans.”
Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong voiced support last week for anti-deportation protesters in Minnesota, saying: “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda. I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda.”
Trump attended last year’s Super Bowl in New Orleans between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles — in which the Eagles defeated the Chiefs, who were cheered on by pop star Taylor Swift, whose boyfriend is Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
