Eagles get Andy Dalton in trade with Panthers to bolster QB depth

News RoomBy News RoomMarch 18, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Andy Dalton is headed to Philadelphia.

The Eagles acquired the veteran quarterback from the Panthers in exchange for a 2027 seventh-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Dalton, 38, has spent each of the last three seasons in Carolina backing up Bryce Young.

Philly will be the sixth stop for Dalton, who was drafted in the second round by Cincinnati in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Dalton spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Bengals, making three Pro Bowls.

He’s bounced around since leaving the franchise after the 2019 season, making unsuccessful one-year stops with the Cowboys, Bears and Saints before catching on with the Panthers in 2023.

Dalton will now presumably backup Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia, in all likelihood replacing Tanner McKee, who has spent the last two seasons as the team’s QB2. McKee has been part of trade rumors this offseason.

The Eagles lost their third-string quarterback, Sam Howell, earlier this month after he signed a deal with the Cowboys.

Dalton brings 179 regular-season games plus four playoff games of experience to the Eagles’ quarterback room.

He’s thrown for 39,793 yards with 254 touchdowns and 151 interceptions throughout his 15-year NFL career.

Dalton appeared in six games for the Panthers in 2025 and completed 65.4 percent of his passes for 989 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions.

His trusted veteran presence will be a welcome addition to an Eagles locker room that looked unhappy at times last season.

Wide receivers A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith appeared to buttheads with Hurts despite having just come off a Super Bowl-winning 2024 campaign.

The Eagles finished 11-6 and won the NFC East, but were upset by the injury-riddled 49ers on their home field during the wild-card round.
