The Walt Disney Company’s new chief executive announced in an early morning Tuesday email that the entertainment giant would slash 1,000 jobs in the latest blow to a major Hollywood studio.

“Given the fast-moving pace of our industries, this requires us to constantly assess how to foster a more agile and technologically-enabled workforce to meet tomorrow’s needs,” Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro wrote in an email to employees, according to Reuters. “As a result, ‌we will be eliminating roles in some parts of the company.”

The layoffs will hit a wide range of departments, including Disney’s studio and television divisions, as well as sports powerhouse ESPN.
