Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially rejected the plea deal offered by prosecution in his trial for sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Prosecution announced on April 25 that they had offered Combs a deal, and that he had rejected it. Today in court, he made it official. When asked if he rejected a plea that could have resulted in a shorter jail sentenced, Diddy said “Yes I do, your honor.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said the plea would have resulted in reduced prison time compared to what he’ll get if convicted. The charges against Diddy, cumulatively, could result in what amounts to a life sentence (per ABC News).
Diddy is charged with counts of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Jury selection begins May 5, and opening statements are set to begin May 12.
