Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visited New York City Wednesday, stopping at the Brooklyn subway station where a migrant allegedly torched a sleeping homeless woman to death.
Noem, who has been traveling across the nation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, was spotted at Coney Island’s Stillwell Avenue subway station, where the infamous arson attack took place last December.
Along with the stop in Brooklyn, Noem was seen visiting the US Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma vessel at Pier 88 in Manhattan, where she was pictured with ICE, NYPD, Coast Guard and ICE officials.
The DHS secretary is in the city to meet with law enforcement officials on the topic of illegal immigration and crime, the department said in a statement.
“Met with law enforcement officials this morning in NYC. Those who are in this country WILL be tracked down, prosecuted and not allowed to return,” Noem wrote about the trip on X.
“If aliens voluntarily leave now, they may have the opportunity to return the right, legal way and live the American dream. If they don’t, they will face the inevitable consequences,” she added.
Noem had her camera crew in tow as they walked the platforms of the Stillwell station, where Guatemalan national Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, 33, was accused of lighting Debrina Kawam, 57, on fire as she was asleep on the train in December.
The gruesome, unprovoked attack left Kawam’s body completely scorched, which made it difficult for police to immediately identify her.
DHS described the attack to The Post as the “most depraved act imaginable.”
It was later revealed that Zapeta-Calil was an undocumented migrant who had snuck over the border twice before. He is now facing murder and arson charges.
