Denise Richards is denying ex Charlie Sheen’s claims that she cashed in a $1 million check he wrote her “as a joke.”
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 54, shared an Instagram Stories post on Thursday, October 23, showing the check she once received from Sheen, 60.
“Found this during my recent move. I never cashed it, @charliesheen,” she wrote over the image of a Wells Fargo check for $1 million. “Is it still good?” she joked.
Sheen, 60, revealed earlier this week that he pulled a very expensive prank on his ex-wife — with whom he shares daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 20 — for her birthday.
“I wrote a check to Denise once for $1 million on her birthday, kind of as a joke, and she kept it not as a joke,” the actor said on the Tuesday, October 21, episode of Kevin Clancy’s “KFC Radio” podcast. “And then, like, a month later, f***ing cashed it.”
The Two and a Half Men alum said he wasn’t sure if they were still married at the time.
“Yeah, which makes it sting more?” Sheen said. “But you know, if I’m on the other side of that, I’m probably cashing that check.”
He went on to quip that Richards “could have let [him] know” in advance about cashing in the check.
The date on the check in Richards’ post appears to be December 24, 2011, which would have been five years after the couple divorced.
Richards and Sheen married in June 2002 and welcomed Sami in March 2024. Richards filed for divorce in March 2005 while she was pregnant with the couple’s second child, Lola. Their divorce was finalized in November 2006.
Despite their tumultuous divorce, during which time the actress sought a restraining order against her ex, Richards and Sheen are on much better terms these days.
The Starship Troopers actress opened up about their marriage and Sheen’s well-documented substance issues in the recent Netflix documentary series a.k.a. Charlie Sheen, released in September.
“What he put me through, I don’t know how I’m here to be honest,” she said. “I think the only way through tragedy, what I was going through, was having a f***ing sense of humor because it was so bad … I know the outside people would think we’re crazy, making fun like, ‘Remember when you took a baseball bat to all the TVs?’ … I think that if I wasn’t a strong person, I would have gone down a very dark road just to deal with all of this s***.”
“The truth is I feel like my life with Charlie is three stages: It’s the time I met him and married him, then my divorce and then the aftermath of it,” she added through tears. “I’m sorry to get so f***ing emotional about it because it was a lot, and I’ve had to f***ing hold it together.”
Richards is currently going through another acrimonious divorce from her second husband, Aaron Phypers.
