Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White said he was going to meet with President Trump imminently over his offer to become White House Press Secretary.
“I’m flying to Washington, D.C. right now,” White told reporters in London at the Zuffa Boxing 12 event Saturday.
The UFC boss said he has a meeting scheduled with Trump Monday, where the two will discuss the offer and other issues.
White didn’t give a clear answer on whether or not he would take the job.
“I have a lot of jobs already,” he said.
Trump posted on Truth Social Saturday that he was requesting White take on the role of press secretary to replace Katie Zacharia, who left the role after a short five day stint.
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States,” Trump declared.
“I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris,” he added.
Trump ended the post urging White to “please take the job!”
The president made the surprise public job offer after Zacharia flamed out in the press secretary role following an extremely rocky start.
Zacharia was visibly nervous at her first and only press conference October 13, which she ended after just 14 minutes after calling on just three reporters.
She frequently referred to her notes during the disastrous presser, and once referred to her own husband as the president.
She tried to pin her dismal performance on lack of sleep, saying she woke up at “3 am in the morning” that day and did not have enough time to prepare prior to the press conference.
The final nail in the coffin came after Zacharia pushed for two media hits on Fox News that also went extremely poorly.
Her appearance on Sean Hannity’s program on October 15 went so poorly that Politico dubbed it a “sanctioned hit” by former White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles – who did not sign off on Zacharia’s hiring.
Zacharia is not the first Trump communications official to have a short, tumultuous tenure.
In his first term, Trump’s communications director Anthony Scaramucci served only a paltry 11 days – which led to his name becoming a unit of time in internet slang.
Scaramucci was axed from the job after delivering a profanity-laden rant to the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza where he bashed several then-Trump administration officials.
“I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own c–k,” he said of President Trump’s former chief strategist.
