Eric Dane’s Euphoria costars are in his corner amid his battle with ALS, including fellow actor Colman Domingo.
“I haven’t been able to speak with him yet,” Domingo, 55, told People on Friday, April 11, at the NBCU Emmy Luncheon. “I just got the news yesterday, too.”
Dane, 52, announced several hours earlier on Thursday, April 10, that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disease that often leads to muscle weakness and paralysis. ALS is also commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“I’m wishing him well,” Domingo added to People. “I look forward to working with him.”
On Euphoria, Domingo plays Ali, the sponsor of Rue (Zendaya), while Dane appears as Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) father, Cal. The highly anticipated third season is currently in production, with Dane and Domingo both expected to return.
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to the set of Euphoria next week,” Dane told People in a Thursday statement. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
Dane shares daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.
“I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,” Dane continued in his statement.
The Grey’s Anatomy alum and Gayheart got married in 2004 but separated in 2018 when the Jawbreaker actress filed for divorce. Gayheart ultimately filed to dismiss the petition to end their marriage earlier in April.
“We are best of friends. We are really close. We are great coparents,” she told E! News on Wednesday, April 9. “We really figured out the formula to staying a family and I think our kids are benefiting greatly from it and we are as well.”
She added, “I think it’s important to not look at a relationship that ends as a failure. It’s just a season. It wasn’t a failure. It was a huge success. We were married for, I mean, we are still married, but together for 15 years and we had two beautiful kids so I think that’s a successful relationship, and that’s how we look at it.”
Gayheart has not publicly addressed Dane’s ALS diagnosis, though she recently reshared an anonymous quote about “the real luxuries in life” on her Instagram Stories.
A list read, “Time, health, a quiet mind, slow mornings, ability to travel, rest without guilt, a good night’s sleep, calm and ‘boring’ days, meaningful conversations, home-cooked meals, people you love, people who love you back.”
