CBS News is pushing back after Bill Belichick slammed the network in a statement for creating a “false narrative” around his disastrous “CBS Sunday Morning” interview that aired over the weekend.
Belichick asserted in the statement that he had “clearly communicated” to his publicist at publishing house Simon & Schuster that any interview he did for the promotion of his book, “The Art of Winning,” would only focus on the book.
However, a CBS News spokesperson rebutted that the outlet had made any agreement to on any “preconditions or limitations” on what would be asked during the sit-down.
“When we agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for a wide-ranging interview,” a CBS News spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday. “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”
The news magazine program interview has turned into a headache for Belichick and the University of North Carolina as the famed coach prepares to coach his first year in college football.
It was reported earlier this week by TMZ that people in Chapel Hill were becoming concerned over his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordan Hudson’s, influence over him.
