Carrie Underwood fires up another SNF heater, Collinsworth was DISGUSTED & naked Sydney Sweeney angers the mob

‘Nightcaps’ is a daily column that catches you up on the biggest sports, news and culture stories you may have missed while pretending to do work at your desk. It runs Monday–Friday on OutKick.com.

What a weekend.

Goodness gracious, did I miss that. College football all day Saturday. Texas-Ohio State madness to end the night. And then we finally got to watch the RedZone countdown clock hit all zeroes yesterday for the first time since January.

Makes me tear up every year!

Sure, my Dolphins were horrible, but I knew that coming in. I was just glad to watch a QB not crumble the second a defender got within 10 yards of him. What a pleasure.

NFL WEEK 1 TAKEAWAYS: BENGALS FLASH CONTENDER UPSIDE, BEARS EXPLODE AND PACKERS COLLAPSE

Serious question: Was that one of the best 1 p.m. Week 1 slates we’ve ever had? Admittedly, I don’t remember all of them, but I also don’t recall that many touchdowns being scored during the 1 p.m. hour in a long time.

Did any of my anytime touchdown parlays hit? Nope. Not one. But still, what a rush!

Let’s roll.

Welcome to a Monday Nightcaps — the one where Carrie Underwood fires up the Sunday Night Football fastball for yet another season.

How great was it to end our weekends with Carrie again last night? Just felt right.

What else? I’ve got Cris Collinsworth being just DISGUSTED by the Dallas Cowboys, and the internet is pissed about two things from over the weekend: Sydney Sweeney getting naked, and Holly Rowe.

Two VERY separate things, I might add. Phew.

Grab you a Boston Cream donut for National Cream-Filled Donut Day, and settle in for a Monday ‘Cap!

Carrie still has it, to the surprise of absolutely no one

Let’s go ahead and get this outta the way real quick before we launch into another week …

Boston cream donuts are the only good creme-filled donuts. Those other ones with the whiter filling inside? They’re horrible. They’re knockoffs.

Yes, I realize that sounded sexual. There’s nothing I can do about it. I’m describing a donut. It’s not easy.

And yes, I also realize doughnut is the traditional spelling. I don’t care. It’s donut. This is America.

Whatever that means.

OK, now that our weekly Ted Talk is outta the way, let’s get this class started the same way we ended our first NFL Sunday …

With the return of Carrie Underwood:

Collinsworth wasn’t thrilled with the Cowboys

I’m happy to report that most of the feedback online was positive. Earlier this summer, we had a couple internet trolls try to get Carrie fired before her 14th season on SNF, claiming she was past her prime.

Hogwash!

Sure, you still had some naysayers. You always will in today’s society. I assume some of them don’t like Carrie because she was at Trump’s inauguration two years ago? I don’t know. That’s the only thing I can think of.

Some are calling for her to “retire.” Others didn’t love that NBC seemingly remixed the classic intro just a touch, although I didn’t really notice much of anything.

Regardless, any day that ends with Carrie leading us into Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth is a good day. It’s perfect. It’s America at our best.

Welcome back, football. And welcome back, Collinsworth!

“Here’s a guy who STINKS at covering tight ends!”

Sydney & Holly drama!

Amazing. Cris was just disgusted by the Dallas Cowboys last night. He couldn’t believe the garbage he was watching. I imagine Dallas fans felt the same way.

Side note: Speaking of things I’d love to retire, can we please try something else on Sunday Night Football for a while? We get Cowboys-Giants EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Most of the time, it’s the season-opener. It never fails.

I understand the TV markets. I do. I know why NBC does it, but goodness, it ain’t like Sunday Night Football needs any propping up in the ratings department. It’s routinely the most-watched show every single year. By a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide margin.

That being said, if this game weren’t in New York, we might not have got this little gem out of Collinsworth in the second quarter:

“I felt like there was so much raw emotion in this building. 9/11. And I mean, it was just raw.”

Incredible. Nobody does it quite like Cris. Elite stuff. Like Carrie, he’s untouchable.

OK, let’s rapid-fire this Monday class into a big Monday night … of MORE football! Don’t forget, we get our first Monday Night Football game of the year in a few hours.

Chiefs-Broncos. Mahomes off the ACL. Nix off the broken ankle. Jaylen Waddle. Travis Kelce. Joe and Troy. What a blessing.

God, I love this country.

You know what I specifically love? Bitter women who are currently blaming Sydney Sweeney on the downfall of women’s sports:

Oh give me a break. This is just insane.

“I can’t describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this,” said Ariarne Titmus, a former Australian swimming champion. “Not only is it a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft, but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is — teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity. How do we live in a world where monetizing a woman’s body and sexualizing women’s sport is still a thing?”

Sydney Sweeney walks red carpet

Please. What are we doing here? Sydney Sweeney doing a mostly-naked commercial for sports gambling has literally zero impact on women’s sports. It hasn’t set women’s sports back decades. It hasn’t sexualized anything.

It’s called GOOD MARKETING.

Do these ladies know who does 99% of the sports betting in this country? Men. This ad is geared towards GUYS.

Guys like sports. Guys like gambling on sports. And, yes, guys like half-naked women. I’m not breaking news to anyone here. It’s just the truth.

Sydney Sweeney and Novig didn’t reinvent the wheel with this ad. They used their brains and put together quite literally the easiest marketing campaign of all time. Let’s not make it more than it is.

Speaking of fake outrage … anyone see this Holly Rowe-Steve Sarkisian after Texas’s stunning win Saturday night?

The Big Js are FURIOUS at Sark today:

I don’t know Holly Rowe at all. I’ve never met her. I only know her from a few weeks ago when she cried into the camera because there was a big crowd at a women’s basketball game in Canada. Seriously. She did that.

But I’m not going to pass judgement on someone I don’t know.

Here’s what I do know: These postgame interviews are so dumb. Frankly, so are the halftime interviews. Do we really need them? Talk to Arch. Talk to the players. We don’t need to hear from the coaches. It’s all the same. It’s all coach speak. It’s all fluff, including the questions.

Here’s how this would’ve gone, by the way:

“Sark, how big is this moment for the program?”

“It was pretty big, Holly. We just beat the No. 1 team in the country. That’s always big.”

“What were your emotions like”

“I was pretty happy. We won. Just really proud of the guys.”

There. I just did the whole interview for you! You’re welcome.

OK, that’s it for today. Good start to the week. Let’s enjoy some more FOOTBALL tonight.

Here’s more Sydney on the way out.
