It’s going to cost you if you want to see Alex Ovechkin have a chance to break Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career goal-scoring mark on Sunday against the Islanders.
Ticket prices skyrocketed after the 39-year-old Capitals star scored the 893rd and 894th goals to tie The Great One’s mark against the Blackhawks at Capital One Arena on Friday night.
It sets him up to move all alone into first place when Washington heads to UBS Arena on Sunday afternoon.
“I’m still a little shaking and still can’t believe it,” Ovechkin said while sitting next to Gretzky after the Capitals’ win on Friday. “It’s history. It’s great for the game. It’s great to do it here. It’s special.”
As of early Saturday afternoon, there were two tickets for Row 2 of Section 120 in the lower bowl of UBS Arena listed for $10,078 each on StubHub before fees.
The cheapest seat in the lower bowl was $1,200.
One seat in Section 316, Row 1 is listed for $6,106.
The prices on Vivid Seats were slightly more affordable, with the highest-priced ticket going for $3,702 in Row 16 of Section 102 before fees.
Tickets in the 300 Sections are going for as much as $1,664 and as little as $545.
It’s a stark difference from the ticket prices for next week’s home game against the rival Rangers, with tickets as low as $48 and as high as $4,160 on Vivid Seats.
Before the record-tying goal, The Post reported that tickets for the Capitals-Islanders clash started at $116 on Vivid Seats.
While Ovechkin and the Capitals are focused on history before the postseason as they lead the Metropolitan Division, the Islanders are trying to hold onto their slim playoff hopes.
They sit five points out of the final wild-card spot in the East with seven games remaining.
Gretzky will be in attendance Sunday afternoon as he has been traveling with the Capitals during Ovechkin’s pursuit.
“Alex’s been great for the game, great for Washington, great for his own country [Russia] — it’s wonderful,” he said in a TV interview during Friday’s game. “I’m proud of him, I’m proud of what I accomplished. That’s what makes our game so wonderful.”
