Even the Energizer Bunny rolls out of control sometimes.
Cam Skattebo’s infectious energy crossed a line Wednesday when he was in the middle of the closest thing the Giants have had to an intrasquad fight during training camp. And on the final day, no less.
No punches were thrown, so let’s call it a “skirmish” with boiling tempers and flag-worthy consequences.
“Skatt does bring a lot of energy, but he did get a 15-yard penalty at the end of practice,” head coach John Harbaugh said. “That’s not infectious. Well, it is infectious, actually. Infectious in a bad way, right?
He added with a laugh, “like infectious disease type of thing.”
Skattebo had to be separated from defensive backs Greg Newsome II and Jevon Holland after a running play. Edge Brian Burns was in head coach John Harbaugh’s ear after the whistle.
Skattebo later made his way over the defensive sideline to make peace.
“We don’t want that,” Harbaugh said. “So, we want [his energy] to be directed in a positive way.”
Because defensive players are restricted from tackling in practice, they often get angry when offensive players initiate contact.
Skattebo, a bull-dozing runner, is known to lower his pads and trash talk after big gains.
