The Lakers played next-to-no defense Saturday night, allowing theTimberwolves to shoot an obscene 50 percent (21 of 42) from 3-point range.

The Volume’s Jason Timpf did an excellent film room style breakdown of what went wrong for Los Angeles, most of which starts with intensity and plenty of problems with the game plan.

Redick had the Lakers attacking Rudy Gobert on isolation style off-dribble matchups, ones that are seldomly won by LeBron James at this point in his career.

The real way the Lakers will win this game and the series is by crushing undersized guards Mike Conley and Donte DiVincenzo on the defensive side of the ball.

Betting on the NBA?

If the Lakers are able to hunt those guys and get their role players to make open jump shots, it would be a good first step to getting a win.

Luka Doncic was far from the issue for the Lakers and I’d expect him to get take extra care of his teammates and set them up for open jump shots.

Game 2 will be pressure-filled and I worry the Lakers will crumble under it early.
