Brian Austin Green is using his experience on Celebrity Name That Tune to offer advice to future contestants — and he even nominated some of his former Beverly Hills, 90210, costars for a future season.
“I would nominate anybody. I think Ian [Ziering] would have fun. I think Tori [Spelling] would have fun,” Green, 53, exclusively told Us. “It’s a fun, easygoing show.”
Celebrity Name That Tune tests contestants’ music knowledge as they battle it out in a selection of challenging musical games for a chance to win over $100,000 for their chosen charity.
“Each one-hour episode of Celebrity Name That Tune is comprised of two stand-alone half-hour contests, each pitting two players — either celebrity or civilian pairings — against each other as they test their knowledge of songs performed by the live band,” read the official show synopsis. “Each contest features a rotating variety of games from the original format, before the iconic Bid-a-Note round.”
The description continued: “The player with the most money at the end of Bid-a-Note wins the game and takes their bank into the Golden Medley bonus round for a chance to win additional cash and potentially the life-changing $100,000 grand prize.”
Green told Us he was surprised by how little preparation he did for Celeb Name That Tune.
“You can be a music person but name that tune has you naming the song titles, which a lot of times people don’t really know,” he noted. “So it would get down to it and luckily the band would be playing and then they would the part where the title was, they would just stop singing and performing, so it was just the music.”
He continued: “You had a sense fill in the blank with the words that’s the song title. But there’s no real way of preparing. Are you just going to listen to every song you’ve ever heard and try and remember the song title? It’s like preparing for Jeopardy. I don’t know how you do it. Is there a book that exists with all the song titles in them?”
Green was grateful he got to go on Fox’s Celebrity Name That Tune.
“I’m just freewheeling right now. I’m lucky enough to have this time off right now so these things have worked out. Name That Tune we shot in Ireland. So I had this amazing trip to Ireland with my fiancée [Sharna Burgess],” he recalled. “It was great. There are a lot of these things where they just work out and it’s just a bonus all around. Things just fall into place.”
Green was thrilled to go up against Daphne Zuniga as he competed to raise money for Race to Erase MS, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding multiple sclerosis research.
“It’s an organization that I’ve worked with for a long time. When I first started doing it in the ’90s, it was an actual race. We would raise money and it’s been going on for so long now. It’s hard sometimes picking charities because charity work is difficult,” he explained to Us. “MS is something that is so close. I genuinely feel like within my lifetime — within the next few years, — there could absolutely be a cure that is found. I just love the concept of helping with something that that could and should be so close. They’ve been fighting it for a while now. So it’s one of those things where it’s like, ‘God, it’s gotten so close.’ It just continues to develop and get closer. Why not just help push them over the finish line?”
Celebrity Name That Tune airs on Fox Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
