Boston Blue has kept viewers on the edge of their seats about whether Brian lived or died — and now Us has the answer.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from the season 2 premiere, which airs Friday, October 9, Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) visits boyfriend Brian Rodgers’ (Ryan Broussard) apartment, where he appears to be on the mend.
Lena notices that Brian slept on the couch, leading him to reply, “There’s more space out here. If I can see the sky, then [I] can control the anxiety.”
As Brian continues to struggle with the aftermath of his accident, Lena reveals she “found the blue truck” that ran him off the road.
“I’m a cop, Lee. It is killing me not to be out there and find the person who did this to me,” he tells Lena. “You were in a wheelchair three months ago and now you’re out there looking like a whole new woman, and you’re telling me to slow down?”
The first look ends with the couple in a sweet place after leaning on each other emotionally during their individual health scares. Lena previously sustained serious injuries in the field, while Brian’s car fell into the ocean — with him still in it — after a crash.
“There is a little bit of a time jump when we come into the season, which gets us past the medical leave that Lena faces to heal from her injuries,” showrunner Brandon Sonnier exclusively told Us in a joint interview with executive producer Brandon Margolis. “It also pushes us a little bit further down the road of who was driving the car, what was the inciting incident for that event and we unravel what happened right after.”
He added: “That does become a driving force in Lena and Danny’s life — and the rest of the Reagans and the Silvers. They want to get to the bottom of what that was all about and who was behind it. We do find that person at some point, and we do unravel that there is something larger going on and it is a driving force to the season.”
Margolis noted that the numerous roadblocks thrown Lena’s way would be addressed in season 2, adding, “We love opportunities for her and Danny to grow closer as a result. So that’s what we’re looking forward to in season 2 is resolving the aftermath of the accident. It is about finding out who was behind the wheel of that car and getting justice for Rodgers.”
Martin-Green, 41, also spoke to Us about her reaction to the reveal.
“I was relieved. We all were. There was a hot second where we didn’t know what exactly was gonna happen and then we were all quickly relieved,” she recalled before the season 2 premiere. “It’s great because Ryan was excited as well that he was gonna get to stay with us. We’ve got a tight-knit show family going on, so it was really good news.”
Boston Blue returns to CBS Friday, October 9, at 10 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Paramount+.
