Arizona State extends coach Kenny Dillingham as Michigan pool dwindles for Sherrone Moore replacement

News RoomBy News RoomDecember 20, 20251 ViewsNo Comments

Michigan’s potential coaching pool continues to dwindle, with another name scratched off the list with Arizona State inking Kenny Dillingham to a contract extension.

Dillingham, who has led the Sun Devils to an 8-4 record entering a Sun Bowl matchup with Duke on New Year’s Eve, will receive an average of $7.5 million per year, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel is looking to replace Sherrone Moore, who was fired over having an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer in violation of university policy.

He later was arrested and charged with felony home invasion, plus misdemeanor counts of breaking and entering and stalking in a domestic relationship stemming from an alleged break-in at the home of his executive assistant and lover, Paige Shiver, in which he threatened to harm himself.

Another name circulating around Michigan opening has been Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, but the Crimson Tide earned a 34-24 win Friday night over Oklahoma in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

Alabama coaching legend Nick Saban on Friday threw his “complete support” behind DeBoer remaining in Tuscaloosa.

“Let me say one thing, Kalen DeBoer has the total and complete support of the University of Alabama,” Saban said on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

“They want him to be the coach of Alabama. Maybe they [the fans] can get him to Michigan. I don’t know.”

Earlier this week, DeBoer also released a statement through the school’s NIL collective that he has “no interest” in pursuing another coaching job.

“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job,” DeBoer said. “I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”

Biff Poggi is the Wolverines’ interim coach and will lead the team in its Dec. 31 clash against Texas in the Citrus Bowl.
