Mariska Hargitay just reminded Us why every fall wardrobe deserves a classic black trench coat. The timeless layer is practically a shortcut to looking expensive, whether you’re heading to the office, grabbing coffee or running errands. And if there’s one outerwear staple worth keeping in rotation year after year, this might be it.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star was spotted on the New York City set on October 15 wearing a long black trench coat over a gray turtleneck, black pants and matching boots. Her sleek outerwear tied the entire outfit together, creating a streamlined silhouette that looked equal parts sophisticated and effortless. While her exact coat hasn’t been identified, we found a $60 similar version on Amazon.

The Farktop Oversized Double Breasted Trench Coat features a long silhouette, notched lapels, double-breasted buttons and a waist-defining belt. Its windproof design makes it a practical layer for chilly fall days, while the adjustable waist lets you create a more flattering, cinched-in shape. Beyond black, it comes in beige, cream and other versatile neutrals, with sizes ranging from XS to XXL.
The designer-looking coat has already earned more than 600 five-star ratings on Amazon, and shoppers are especially impressed by its expensive appearance. One reviewer even said it “Looks like a designer coat,” comparing the style to Burberry. For an under-$100 find, that’s quite the compliment!
Another shopper described the fit as “flattering” and the construction as “well made,” adding that they were “impressed with how elegant it looks.” Between its tailored details and versatile silhouette, it’s easy to see why shoppers are loving this fall staple. Plus, the belt lets you switch between a relaxed and waist-cinching look.
Whether you style it with a turtleneck and boots like Hargitay or throw it over jeans and a sweater, this black trench is the kind of layer you’ll reach for again and again. The longline cut adds a sophisticated finish to everyday outfits, while the belted waist helps define your shape. It’s an affordable way to give your fall wardrobe a little Olivia Benson-approved upgrade.
