Cameras caught Falcons wide receiver Drake London shouting profanities at someone in the crowd during a verbal confrontation in Atlanta’s ugly 34-3 loss to the Panthers on Sunday.
London was shouting at an unknown person in the third quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium while fellow wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus seemed to be running interference.
The Fox broadcast only showed a few seconds of the altercation, and London said after the game that it wasn’t the “right thing to do,” but the spectator had been saying “personal stuff.”
“Some personal stuff that was said,” London said after the game, according to The Athletic. “I am going to be honest here, I don’t take lightly to disrespect at all. I don’t care who you are. I am a man, too, at the end of the day. If you want to get on a personal level, I can get there, too. But that’s not the right thing to do, right? I have to be the bigger man in some of those situations, but with how the game was going and what was said to me, I didn’t like it.”
The Falcons were down 27-3 at the time of the incident.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the person London was yelling at was a fan, and the player only said “it was somebody” when he was asked by reporters if it was a fan.
He also admitted that the score of the game had played a role in his outburst, according to ESPN.
The Falcons offense didn’t do much on Sunday, including London, who had 51 yards on four catches. Quarterback Cooper Rush threw two picks and had a fumble before he was benched in the third quarter for undrafted rookie QB Jack Strand.
Atlanta fans booed the Falcons during the home opening loss, though London said that the booing “gives me more juice to go prove everybody wrong. “
“If we have everybody against us, then all you can do is push forward,” he said.
