Jim Harbaugh provides shocking injury update on Ladd McConkey

News RoomBy News RoomSeptember 14, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

After what was a disappointing offensive performance against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, it’s only getting worse for the Los Angeles Chargers.

During their 26-14 loss, Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey took a hit to the chest area that resulted in him not returning for the rest of the game.

On Monday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said that per Jim Harbaugh, McConkey is considered day-to-day as he’s dealing with a rib injury.

“Chargers say they want to see how McConkey feels this week before determining his availability Sunday,” Schefter wrote on an X post.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also added that McConkey is having tests done on Monday and added that he could be out during their Week 2 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The potential loss of McConkey comes after the Chargers offense — which was expected to take a major leap this season, following the acquisition of offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel — put on a display they’d probably like to forget.

The bulk of the offense’s issues on Sunday were due to the disappointing performance of their offensive line, as they looked confused at times and would give up sacks at critical parts of the game.

Los Angeles’ running game was primarily led by second year running back Omarion Hampton, who had 12 carries for 43 yards and 1 touchdown. As a group, the Chargers only ran for 81 yards.

Quarterback Justin Herbert completed 17 of 27 passes for 209 yards with 1 touchdown and an interception that came with less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

McConkey, who’s been the Chargers’ leading receiver over the last two seasons, had 7 targets and caught of Herbert’s passes for 82 yards and a touchdown.

ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky said on Monday that Herbert’s problem during the game was he got “locked on to receivers far too often.”

“Meaning ‘I’m only throwing it to this guy because I think he’s going to be open,’ instead of getting to that second or third read,” Orlovsky said. “That happens in that McDaniel, [Kyle] Shanahan system.”

While there are several things that went wrong for the Chargers, Harbaugh told reporters on Monday that he’s aware of the mistakes they made, and he wishes he had played his starters more during the preseason.
