Former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen certainly appeared to have red, glassy eyes in the hours after his DUI arrest on Sunday morning.
A copy of the NFL player’s mugshot, obtained by The California Post, showed the current Colts receiver seemed to have a glazed-over look on his face after he was taken into custody for allegedly driving drunk in Indiana.
Allen was initially pulled over by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers at around 1 a.m. after they claimed his car was stopped in a no-parking zone on an Indianapolis roadway.
While conducting their traffic stop, cops said in a statement to The Post that Allen showed signs of being impaired. He was later taken into custody following a further investigation.
Jail records show the 34-year-old was booked on two misdemeanor charges — one count of DWI/DUI/OWI-endanger person and one count of DWI/DUI/OWI-ACE .08 or more.
“An arrest and a charge are merely accusations,” the IMPD said in its statement to The Post, “and Allen should be considered innocent unless and until found guilty in court. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.”
Allen, who just signed with the Colts earlier this month after starring for the Chargers last season, played in Indianapolis’ preseason finale against the Lions on Saturday, catching one pass for 24 yards.
The Colts said in a statement Sunday they were “aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen” and “are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Allen was picked by the Chargers in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft and is considered one of the franchise’s best-ever players. He had mulled retirement this offseason before electing to join Indianapolis on Aug. 18.
