Cristano Ronaldo and Wife Georgina Rodriguez Explain Why They Held ‘Intimate’ Wedding in Living Room

News RoomBy News RoomAugust 16, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and his wife, Georgina Rodríguez, opted for an intimate wedding ceremony instead of a lavish luxury affair — and that’s exactly how they wanted it.

“In the future, we will have a big wedding, so we can celebrate with family and friends,” Rodríguez, 41, told Vogue in a Sunday, August 16, profile. “When I was a little girl, “I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress [and] a crown full of diamonds. And now I’m saying, ‘No. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.’”

She continued, “Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: We have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate — that’s more unusual for us.”

Ronaldo, 32, and the model said “I do” in a civil ceremony in Portugal on Tuesday, August 11, in which their five children were also present.

“We’ve chosen to do it in the living room of our house here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives,” Rodríguez told the outlet. “In 30 years’ time I want the children to think, ‘Something wonderful happened at this table — the wedding vows of our parents.’”

Ronaldo jokingly added, “It probably won’t be the same table. We might change the decor.”

In the end, the ceremony was exactly as the newlyweds hoped it would be.

“It was exactly as I’d imagined it,” Rodríguez said about the ceremony. “Intimate, full of love, and with our family in the most important starring role. I couldn’t hold back the tears.”

Ronaldo first met Rodríguez in 2016 when she was working at the Gucci store in Madrid. In a fitting tribute, Rodríguez and the pro athlete both wore ensembles from the brand for their nuptials.

“It felt incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment, knowing their love story began in a Gucci store in Madrid,” Gucci artistic director Demna gushed to Vogue. “There is something so romantic about it — a beautiful circle closing, almost like a modern fairy tale.”

Now that they are officially husband and wife, Ronaldo and Rodríguez are eagerly looking forward to their next chapter as a couple.

“This is probably my last year of [soccer], and I want to leave a spectacular legacy. I have my future all mapped out,” Ronaldo said, referring to his eventual retirement. “I have so many things to keep me busy that to tell you just one thing is hard. Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one. And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue to enjoy what I’ve earned — what we’ve earned. Because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”

As for whether their future includes expanding their family further, Ronaldo coyly added, “I never say never.”

“Another baby now would be ‘overbooking’ at home, but when the youngest are 15 or 16 we’ll still be young, so why not?” Rodríguez mused. “It’s true that I can’t imagine myself without small children, so we’ll see.”
