Taylor Frankie Paul Addresses Stint at Rehab Facility, Says She Needed a Mental Health ‘Reset’

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 6, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

Taylor Frankie Paul is opening up about the reason behind her recent stay at a rehab center.

“Yes I seeked [sic] help at a facility,” Paul, 32, wrote over a clip of herself discussing the situation via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, July 5. “I owe this to nobody but I like to share my life from my mouth.”

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star began the video by telling viewers that she was not there to “clear up any rumors,” but she wanted to be open about her mental health, as she always has been.

“I knew that I was in a spot to take a step back and be like, ‘OK, we need to reset,’” Paul explained of the decision to voluntarily check into a rehab facility. “But facilities are not for just substance. … There are a list of reasons why people go into that. Number one priority was just a reset for my mental health, and to get away, decompress, whether it’s one day, whether it’s seven, whether it’s 30. I willingly did that.”

Paul then slammed critics who “judged” her for getting help.

“It kind of bums me out that [it was] kind of weaponized against me, actually doing the right thing of noticing I needed extra help, and whatever that may be,” she continued. “I ended up finding a really good antidepressant that has been working for me. I will share the meds eventually, however, I like to trial and error before I talk about them because it takes a while to set in, and I would hate to be recommending something that I don’t even like myself.”

Paul concluded, “[This was the] one thing I wanted to keep private, which I feel like I was entitled to, though I was willing to be open with those that needed to know, for the safety of my children, for myself, and those around me. However, that wasn’t enough. Mental health in private rooms should remain private, and I don’t think everyone should have access to that.”

Paul wrote over the video that she “can’t wait” to share more about how she benefited from the rehab center.

“There is absolutely nothing wrong with noticing you need extra support and seeking it,” she added.

Us Weekly confirmed Paul’s recent rehab stay on Wednesday, July 1.

“She is focused on doing the work with her mental health professionals and checked in for a voluntary stay,” a source told Us. “She has since been cleared and departed. Her priority remains doing the work on her mental health and being a good mom.”

Paul’s rehab stint comes amid her legal battle with ex Dakota Mortensen over custody of their 2-year-old son, Ever.

In March, Hulu halted production on season 5 of Mormon Wives after news broke that Utah’s Draper City Police Department was investigating domestic assault allegations involving Paul and Mortensen, 33, in connection with a February incident. Prosecutors ultimately declined to press charges. (ABC also pulled Paul’s season of The Bachelorette at the time.)

Mortensen was granted a temporary protective order against Paul and temporary custody of Ever in March after he claimed that Paul choked him and shoved him into a window at her house during their altercation in February. Paul filed for her own protective order against her ex, claiming he assaulted her in his truck, which was also granted the following month.

In June, a judge lifted Taylor’s supervised visitation with Ever, stating that she can have her youngest son on alternative weekends and one midweek day that is not overnight. She and Mortensen are expected to appear in court again on Wednesday, July 8.

Amid her battle with Mortensen, news broke in late June that Taylor’s ex Tate Paul filed for a temporary restraining order against her and is seeking custody of their kids, Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6. His restraining order request was denied, although he asked the court to reconsider its decision.
