PHILADELPHIA — We last saw Francisco Lindor in a major league game on April 22, when he was reunited with Juan Soto for all of four innings following the outfielder’s return from a calf injury.
Lindor’s own calf discomfort running the bases as he scored from first base on a ball in the gap left the Mets without another star player.
The Mets won that night, beating the Twins to snap a 12-game losing streak, and since then are 26-25. Such mediocrity hasn’t been enough to jump-start their season and we are left heading to the official start of summer wondering what to make of this team.
Lindor played for Double-A Binghamton on Friday in his first minor league rehab game since the injury, positioning him to potentially rejoin the Mets within a few days. It’s a boost that this inconsistent bunch needs, and it might even extract the team from the NL East basement, but it’s still a long road to playoff contention.
