Olu Fashanu knows where experienced Jets offensive line’s focus must be with Geno Smith at QB

News RoomBy News RoomJune 17, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Olu Fashanu is in his third year with the Jets and on his third starting quarterback, third offensive coordinator and third head coach.

So much change can affect a young offensive lineman, but Fashanu is looking forward to working in an offensive line that returns four of its starters from 2025.

“I feel like there’s a lot of carryover from last year,” Fashanu said. “I think from Armand [Membou], and I’s perspective, with having more of a pocket passer in Geno [Smith], we understand that we have to be a lot more aware in terms of our outside rush and inside rush.”

In the absence of veteran kicker Nick Folk, who signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Falcons, the Jets have question marks at the kicker position heading into the 2026 season.

One of Cade York or Jason Sanders will likely be the starter, as they continue to compete every day, according to special teams coordinator Chris Banjo.

“They’re both consistently competitive in just their approach, their process,” Banjo said.

Texas Tech’s David Bailey was brought in to help improve a struggling Jets pass rush from 2025, but new defensive coordinator Brian Duker’s preferred 3-4 system will see him play in a lot of roles this season.

Duker said the Jets haven’t focused on Bailey’s development in any one place in particular, but instead are trying to make him as well-rounded as possible, including working on dropping responsibilities.

The defensive coordinator said Bailey, who had 22.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks for Texas Tech last year, has impressed with his intelligence during the pass rush.
