Gavin Newsom desperately tries to flip the script on Trump with aggressive new letter: ‘Which is it?’

News RoomBy News RoomJune 17, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

California Governor Gavin Newsom has tried to flip the script on President Trump and his administration as he and his wife Jennifer face a Department of Justice investigation.

“The United States Department of Justice selectively leaked uncorroborated details about ongoing investigative matters involving the Governor and First Partner, so it should not be a problem for you to confirm whether US DOJ has opened any investigations into the instances of apparent public corruption detailed above involving the President and his allies,” Newsom wrote in a letter he shared Tuesday night.

“Which is it?” he continued, asking whether the DOJ is targeting the President’s enemies or enforcing the law impartially.

In a letter addressed to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche—who has not publicly commented on the investigation—Newsom accused the Trump administration and the DOJ of pursuing a politically motivated “fishing expedition” against him.

“Calling this investigation a fishing expedition is actually too generous. If your commitment to rooting out corruption were serious, the enormous resources that you have poured into this investigation looking for a crime that does not exist would be focused elsewhere,” Newsom, who is weighing a 2028 presidential run, wrote.

“You need only train your attention on the open-air corruption market that the White House has become,” he added, listing a series of alleged ethical concerns involving the administration.

Newsom further accused the nation’s top officials of applying double standards in their handling of investigations and public accountability.

In his letter, Newsom argued that federal authorities are targeting political opponents while ignoring alleged conflicts of interest and self-dealing involving the President, his family, and close allies.

As examples, Newsom pointed to a series of reports, including cash the Trump family made from cryptocurrency ventures.

With respect to the cryptocurrency investment and the technology deal involving Trump Media & Technology Group, Trump’s campaign has stated that the two matters are unrelated.

As of now, no formal investigations have been announced in connection with the claims, which have primarily been raised in media reports.

“You may respond that US DOJ policy prohibits prosecuting the sitting President. But that is no excuse for ignoring open and notorious corruption by his family and those around him,” Newsom wrote.

This is Newsom’s second letter to the Trump administration. The first was a Freedom of Information Act request seeking any documents, text messages, Signal chats, or emails mentioning the words “Gavin Newsom,” “Jennifer Siebel Newsom,” or “Gavin” among top DOJ officials, including former Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was fired by Trump.

The White House and DOJ have not made any official comments or publicly addressed Newsom’s accusations, which he made public in a video on Monday alleging that the administration was targeting him, his family, and his friends.

The California Post has reached out to DOJ for comment.
