Exclusive | George Kittle gets tongue-lashing from PETA for killing spider

Not everyone was thrilled to hear about George Kittle’s contentious 1 a.m. battle with a spider this week.

A day after the 49ers tight end boasted about killing an arachnid that had invaded his bathroom and scared his wife, PETA condemned the seven-time Pro Bowler for his actions.

“Spiders are tiny compared to the average human, let alone an NFL player, and have a lot more to fear from us than we do from them, so there’s no need for unnecessary roughness,” PETA senior vice president Lisa Lange said in a statement to The California Post on Thursday.

“PETA is urging George Kittle to drop the unsportsmanlike conduct and adopt a live and let live approach when it comes to uninvited arachnid guests.”

In a lengthy post on his X page on Wednesday morning, Kittle described his eight-legged opponent as the “size of a half dollar” and said he was only able to crush it with “the slant board I’ve been using for rehab.”

Kittle’s wife, Claire, later called the scene “disgusting,” before she jokingly praised her “knight in shining armor” husband for handling the situation.

PETA, though, made it clear it wants Kittle to approach the matter differently moving forward, and promised to send him a “humane bug catcher” so he has a more suitable alternative for the next time the predicament arises.

“PETA notes that spiders play a crucial role in their ecosystems — and that the vast majority are completely harmless to humans,” PETA officials stated. “To gently encourage spiders in the home to move along, PETA recommends humane deterrents, such as peppermint oil.”

The org. then directed Kittle and anyone else in his shoes to read over further tips on their website for disposing unwanted bugs from their house.
