What to Know About ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4: From Chosen Location to Potential Star-Studded Cast

News RoomBy News RoomApril 28, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

Most details about season 4 of The White Lotus are under wraps but there have been hints about the location and potential stars.

The HBO series, which debuted in 2021, focuses on the guests and employees at a fictional resort as they experience a slew of personal ups and downs while on vacation. The anthology series is also known for a mysterious death — or two — that is eventually revealed at the end of each season.

Season 1 was set in Hawaii and featured an ensemble cast including Murray Bartlett, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Fred Hechinger, Jake Lacy, Brittany O’Grady, Natasha Rothwell, Sydney Sweeney, Steve Zahn and Molly Shannon.

The sophomore season moved to a tropical resort in Sicily with Coolidge, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Beatrice Grannò, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Simona Tabasco and Leo Woodall.

Season 3 was set in Thailand, featuring another star-studded cast consisting of Rothwell, Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Lalisa Manobal, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Nivola, Lek Patravadi, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Tayme Thapthimthong and Aimee Lou Wood.

While creator Mike White has preferred to remain tight-lipped on specific future plans for the show, he has teased what viewers can expect.

“I’ve dabbled in Buddhism, and Thailand worked for the themes that I was trying to get into,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in April 2025. “The show is about identity and desire — and then there’s another part of me, the mischievous gay part, that’s just like, ‘How do I create something that’s dirty and funny?’”

According to an interview that played after the season 3 finale, White teased he was looking for a change, adding, “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves against rocks vernacular. But there’s always room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels.”

Where Is Season 4 Set?

HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi teased the possibilities in February 2024, telling Deadline, “We’re going on some locations scouting in the next couple of weeks, so we’ll know soon. I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

Orsi said there were “some countries on the map that we talked about, but nothing to report on until they actually go location scouting.”

Meanwhile, White’s longtime producing partner David Bernad denied rumors that season 4 would be set in a cooler location.

“Mike doesn’t like the cold,” Bernad told The Guardian in February 2025. Since all past seasons of The White Lotus have been filmed at a Four Seasons resort, it is likely a good idea to look at the hotel chain’s list of locations for White’s possible inspiration.

It was later revealed that season 4 will head to France for the new season. It will be filmed at several properties, including the Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez.

When Did Season 4 Go Into Production?

Variety reported that production was being “eyed for 2026″ after the show was renewed for a fourth season. Production on the show officially started in April 2026.

Who Will Star in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 4?

News broke in December 2025 that The Hunger Games alum Alexander Ludwig and former Disney Channel star AJ Michalka would appear on season 4 in then-undisclosed roles. Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Marissa Long and Chris Messina make up the rest of the cast. In February 2026, multiple outlets reported that Sandra Bernhard would also be joining the cast.

Max Greenfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Chloe Bennet, Charlie Hall and Jarrad Paul have also joined. Heather Graham, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, Tobias Santelmann, Frida Gustavsson and Laura Smet round out the cast.

Is Helena Bonham Carter in the ‘White Lotus’ Season 4?

Initially, the Harry Potter star was set to appear in the new season. However, just after production started in April 2026, it was announced that Carter exited the series.

“With filming just underway on season 4 of The White Lotus, it had become apparent that the character which Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not align once on set,” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement at the time. “The role has subsequently been rethought, is being rewritten and will be recast in the coming weeks.”

They added, “HBO, the producers and Mike White are saddened that they won’t get to work with her, but remain ardent fans and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”

Who Replaced Helena Bonham Carter in the ‘White Lotus’ Season 4?

Days after news of Carter’s exit broke, Deadline reported that Laura Dern had taken over the altered role.

Which Actors Have Pitched Themselves for the Show?

A better question might be who hasn’t. In the past, Elizabeth Banks, Janelle James, Hayden Panettiere, James Marsden and Sheryl Lee Ralph have all expressed interest in stopping by a White Lotus. Jamie Lee Curtis, Bette Midler, Pamela Anderson and Jennifer Aniston also mentioned they’d be up for the show.

Could Past Characters Return in Future Seasons?

While there have been a few instances of cast members appearing on multiple seasons — including Coolidge and Rothwell — some White Lotus stars vocalized their interest in bringing other existing characters together. (It helps that White previously appeared on a season of Survivor — and is set to return for more — so an “all-stars” season isn’t out of the realm of possibility.)

Schwarzenegger pitched an on-screen introduction between him, Lacy and James. HBO CEO Casey Bloys, meanwhile, suggested Shannon and Posey’s characters having a history.

Who Isn’t Returning for Season 4?

While season 3 was airing in April 2025, the show’s composer, Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, confirmed to The New York Times that he will not be returning after disagreements about the theme song. White, meanwhile, told The Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t think Tapia de Veer “respected” him.
