Late actor Patrick Muldoon shared a video with sister Shanna Muldoon Zappa just before he died.
“This was the last video my brother sent to our constant family group chat — from Sat night at LACMA opening,” Zappa captioned the video shared via Instagram on Wednesday, April 22.
In the clip, Muldoon is showing off the Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Vision of Christ and God the Father at La Storta painting by Domenico Zampieri, which was on display.
“It’s a beautiful painting,” Muldoon could be heard saying, before doing his Loyola High School football chant. “I think that’s what he was thinking in the picture, actually.”
Zappa explained in her caption that Muldoon “loved” Saint Ignatius “because he was kind of the cool guy, good time guy who was still able to become a saint.”
“As always, he jokes [in the video] … and yet profoundly brings all things into one moment — the jokester, the artist, the football player, and the intensely spiritually connected, Jesuit educated, incredible being that is Patrick Muldoon,” Zappa continued. “My best friend. The best brother / son/ uncle/ anyone could ever possibly ask for.”
Zappa told followers that she will have “so much more to share” in her brother’s memory as time goes on.
“Including all of the love and light his spirit is now receiving through all of you…. Surrounding you in light,” she wrote. “We will eventually have details on when and where we will celebrate him. But now we are still processing. I continue to speak of him in present tense. Because his spirit is all around me. He just changed forms.”
Muldoon’s manager confirmed that the actor died on Sunday, April 19, after suffering a heart attack. He was 57.
The actor was known for his roles on several TV shows, including Days of Our Lives. He also starred in the 1997 film Starship Troopers alongside Denise Richards, with whom he had a long-term friendship.
“This is so hard for me to put into words. I am deeply heartbroken & devastated losing you. You were my best friend & my family,” Richards, 55, shared in a lengthy tribute on Tuesday, April 21. “We met in our first acting class, I was 19 never had an acting job and you were 21 a student at USC doing a recurring role on Who’s the Boss.”
Muldoon and Richards briefly dated, but stayed close friends after their split.
She continued, “The friendship, love, support, respect & loyalty we had was unconditional and rare. You lit up every room you walked into. You are larger than life & everyone was drawn to you. So talented & most underrated actor. And most humble. Everything you did was infectious. Your laugh, your kindness, your wit, your strength, your loyalty, your passion and your zest for life. We’ve been each other’s rock.”
