Francisco Lindor set to hit IL as Mets prepare to call up Ronny Mauricio

News RoomBy News RoomApril 23, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

After dealing with the loss of Juan Soto for 15 games — and a dozen losses — due to a calf strain, the Mets could be looking at a similar stretch without Francisco Lindor with a calf injury.

The Post’s Mike Puma reported that Lindor, scheduled to receive an MRI on his left calf Thursday after leaving Wednesday’s win that snapped a 12-game losing streak, was likely headed to the IL and Ronny Mauricio was on his way to Queens to potentially be activated for the game at Citi Field.

Lindor suffered the injury — on the night Soto returned from his IL stint — rounding the bases on a Francisco Alvarez double in the bottom of the fourth.

He managed to score on the play, but was clearly in discomfort and was removed before the top of the fifth, with Bo Bichette moving from third base to shortstop and Brett Baty inserted at third.

After the game, Carlos Mendoza noted the potential loss of Lindor for weeks, as Soto’s calf strain was deemed minor and still cost him nearly three weeks on the shelf.

Mendoza also indicated that they would likely look for someone to fill in for Lindor at short rather than have Bichette move back to his former position as he’s adjusting to his new role at third.

Lindor’s latest injury concern came on what should have been a positive night for the Mets, who snapped their longest losing streak since 2002 and had Soto back in the lineup.

And the Lindor calf injury comes just as the shortstop seemed to be heating up following a slow start to the season following hamate bone surgery during the spring.

He homered in Tuesday’s loss, made a leaping grab and had an RBI infield hit on Wednesday before departing.

They’ll look for a possible spark from Mauricio, who hit three homers for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday and has shown flashes of potential in his time in the majors.
