Gavin Newsom roasted for bizarrely comparing himself to psycho slasher movie character

News RoomBy News RoomMarch 24, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Californian Psycho?

Gov. Gavin Newsom compared his look to that of notorious “American Psycho” movie character Patrick Bateman, earning widespread mockery for the bizarre boast.

In a post on X Monday night, Newsom showed a split-screen shot of his face side by side with actor Christian Bale’s from his portrayal of the serial killer in the 2000 horror flick.

For so many years people have been saying that Patrick Bateman and I look alike. Now this pic has been going all over the place. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/K5j4vKNzUL

— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) March 24, 2026

The post immediately became the subject of widespread ridicule.

“Not sure if your comms guy read who Patrick Bateman is… but I don’t think comparing yourself to Patrick Bateman is the flex you think it is,” right-wing YouTube influencer Nick Shirley replied to the post, adding a screenshot of the character’s description from Wikipedia.

“You’re a weirdo and the entire world can see it now,” another X user replied.

“Yeah… you’re a psycho. Unfortunately California is your victim,” a third chimed in.

Other referred to Newsom as an “Un-American Psycho,” while some said he lacked awareness.

“Who posts stuff like this about themselves?,” one critic responded.

“Bro, this is X, not Tinder,” the Monterey County Republican Party joked in an X post.

In a quickly deleted post, the governor first compared him to Bale but changed it to mention his character in the film.

One viewer compared Newsom’s post to the style and tone of President Trump, whose social media strategy and communication style have been adopted by the governors’ team to troll the president.

“I’m going to go with @GavinNewsom on this one simply because he’s trolling @realDonaldTrump and it’s funny!” one user wrote, sharing the picture posted by Trump to his Truth Social in February 2024 comparing his look to that of musician Elvis Presly.

“For so many years people have been saying that Elvis and I look alike. Now this pic has been going all over the place. What do you think?” then-2024 presidential candidate wrote at the time.
