ESPN uses photo of wrong player in segment paying tribute to Rondale Moore after death

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 22, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

ESPN found itself in some hot water after it used the wrong image while discussing the death of Vikings wide receiver Rondale Moore.

During the late night edition of “SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt,” the ESPN anchor was paying tribute to Moore when a graphic appeared behind him that incorrectly showed a different wide receiver on the squad, Myles Price.

The segment aired at 1:07 a.m. EST, according to Awful Announcing.

However, the network appeared to have been made aware of the blunder and on subsequent airings of “SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt,” they had re-tapped the segment to include the correct photo of Moore.

ESPN was not alone in making the blunder, with Larry Brown Sports reporting that CNN published an article that made a similar mistake.

Moore died Saturday in Indiana of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was found in a garage, and the Floyd County Coroner said an autopsy has been scheduled, with the cause of death still under investigation.

Moore was born in New Albany, Ind. and went on to be a standout wide receiver at Purdue, recording 1,258 receiving yards on 114 catches with12 touchdown receptions.

In a statement released by Purdue, they called him a “legendary Boilermaker.”

“The Purdue Football family is deeply saddened by the news of Rondale Moore’s tragic passing,” the team said. “An All-American with an infectious smile, Rondale was a joy on and off the field. Someone who left this world too soon, Rondale will be remembered as a legendary Boilermaker.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Rondale’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Moore was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Cardinals.

He signed a one-year deal with the Vikings in March 2025 and suffered a season-ending knee injury during the preseason.
