Amon-Ra St. Brown has some lofty expectations for USC following the school’s Gary Patterson hire.
The former Trojans wideout glowed about his alma mater’s new defensive coordinator during an interview with The California Post last weekend, and he made it clear, anything short of double-digit victories in 2026 will be a letdown.
“To me,” St. Brown said, “it’s at least 10 wins.”
Lincoln Riley pulled Patterson on board at the end of the last month and told reporters after the coach signed on the dotted line that “there was never anybody who was more of a pain to game-plan for and try to figure out how to move the ball against than this guy.”

Patterson manned TCU’s football program for over two decades beginning in 2000, but he stayed away from full-time coaching since leaving the Horned Frogs in October 2021.
St. Brown didn’t seem too concerned about how Patterson would deal with the lengthy layoff, explaining one of his good friends actually played for the two-time AP Coach of the Year previously.
“He went to TCU, played football there,” St. Brown said of his pal. “He was a walk-on. He said he liked Gary; he was a good coach.
“He said SC defense is going to be nice. He’s biased, he went to TCU. But he’s a good coach. So, I’m excited. I love watching SC football.”
St. Brown doesn’t get many opportunities to make it out to USC for games due to his schedule with the Lions, but he said it’s a goal to see his former team in person at some point this year.
“If I can,” he said, “I try to make one.”
