Premier League club interested in USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 11, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Mauricio Pochettino is busy preparing for the World Cup this summer, but could there be a London calling after that?

If Tottenham has its way, that would be exactly what would happen, but the Premier League club may have to turn to its Plan B in the short term before going after the U.S. Men’s National Team boss for its vacant manager job.

The North London soccer club fired its manager, Thomas Frank, on Wednesday morning after a 2-1 loss to Newcastle the day before.

Pochettino is considered to be Tottenham’s ideal choice to fill the role, The Independent reported on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, the idea Pochettino would leave his current post as USMNT head coach before the World Cup seems unlikely.

Still, his contract with U.S. Soccer runs through the end of the World Cup and Pochettino, who was at the helm of Hotspur from 2014 to 2019, could very well make the move then.

The Spurs could look to their contingency plan that would include hiring an interim manager and then wait to hire Pochettino following the World Cup in the summer, The Independent reported.

Pochettino had previously been in charge during a period in which Tottenham finished second in the Premier League and Champions League.

The club is currently in 16th in the Premier League table and dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Pochettino has said in the past that he keeps an eye on what’s going on in the Premier League and expressed interest in returning “one day” in an interview with the BBC.

Appearing on the “High Performance” podcast this week, Pochettino discussed the expectations Tottenham and its fans have.

“To win the Europa League is good because when you celebrate a trophy, that is good, but it’s not enough,” he said. It’s not enough for a club like Tottenham. It’s not enough to challenge for the Carabao Cup or the FA Cup, the Europa League or the Conference.

“The fans expect to be in the Champions League, fighting for the Champions League, trying to believe that you can win the Champions League.”

For now, the focus for Pochettino will be winning the World Cup, for which his squad has been drawn into Group D for the upcoming summer tournament, which will be held in North America

The United States has won four of its last five matches to end 2025 and during that same podcast interview, Pochettino revealed that he had told President Donald Trump that “of course” the U.S. can win the World Cup.
