Gov. Gavin Newsom is shipping out of California again for the Munich Security Conference — where he’ll mingle with world leaders like German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and participate in a chat about climate policy.
Newsom’s office confirmed the jetsetting governor will travel to the annual summit that brings diplomats, heads of state, military leaders and lawmakers together to hash out global security matters.
The high-profile conference kicks off Friday.
This is Newsom’s second trip abroad since traveling to Davos last month to slam European leaders for “rolling over” to President Donald Trump’s demands and hawk campaign merch like $100 kneepads to support his Campaign for Democracy PAC.
Newsom is expected to meet with Merz Friday, according to European news reports.
The two are expected to have a “brief encounter” on the sidelines of the security conference, according to DPA International.
Newsom will participate in a session focused on climate policy Saturday — the same day Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is leading Trump’s delegation, is scheduled to speak.
Merz will kick off the conference with a speech Friday focused on changing trans-Atlantic relations.
Newsom is one of three top Democrats who will attend the conference, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
