Nithya Raman is a ‘recipe for disaster and danger’ who wants to eliminate cops and empty jails

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 9, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Socialist extremist plans for Los Angeles have been exposed – just as their champion Nithya Raman launches her bid to be Mayor.

In a chilling document, the Democratic Socialists of America, of whom Raman is a member, detail their “Program for Los Angeles”, outlining a commitment to disarming police, ending fossil fuel use, closing jails, raising taxes and de-criminalizing drugs.

They also vehemently oppose the 2028 Olympics and even want to seize golf courses and convert the land to public housing.

Raman, one of three DSA members on LA City council, is an outspoken advocate of defunding the police and even voted against a law banning homeless camps 500ft from schools and daycare centers in 2022.

When the 44-year-old announced a surprise run for mayor on Saturday, she claimed Los Angeles was “no longer a place of opportunity” and ”at breaking point.”

In 2023, Raman was one of only three members on council who opposed a new four-year contract with the Los Angeles Police Protective League to given new officers a 14% raise.

She argued the “enormous fiscal impact” would prevent the city from funding alternative responses to homelessness and mental health calls.

The union representing the LAPD said electing Raman and endorsing her democratic socialist agenda was a “recipe for disaster.”

“Nithya Raman wants to eliminate police officers, depopulate our jails, and allow homeless encampments anywhere the homeless want to set up camps,” the union’s board of directors told The Post.

”It’s a recipe for disaster … and danger.”

The union, who have endorsed Bass, said if political backstabbing was a crime ”Nythia Raman would be a wanted fugitive.”

“Raman talks a good game about accountability but refuses to hold criminals, drug addicts and drug dealers accountable. How can anyone trust her?”

Other demands detailed in the DSA document includes training volunteers to “combat ICE raids,” cutting police numbers, axing the Men’s Central jail, establishing drug injection sites and making all public transport free.

Raman’s group even makes the completely unsubstantiated claim that ”colonial settler violence against Palestinians” is rooted in Los Angeles.

Raman’s political career began in 2020 as a city council member for District 4, which covers an area stretching from the San Fernando Valley to the Santa Monica Mountains.

In a social media post in June 2020, she called on services and housing to be funded by defunding the police.

Susan Collins, a Democrat who ran against Raman, said she sold her home of 17 years in October to escape the district she claims is now riven with crime because there’s fewer cops on the streets.

“If Raman were to win, more people would flee Los Angeles, and it would no longer be a livable city.”

Women’s right activist, Tish Hyman, who is also running for mayor, confronted Raman during her mayoral announcement and asked her to define “what a woman is” – but received no response.

The Post reached out to Raman’s office for comment, but was pointed to her announcement on social media.

The surprise bid comes as Bass faces intense scrutiny over a bombshell report alleging she tampered with the city’s after-action report on the devastating Palisades fire.

The prediction market Kalshi has immediately put Raman’s odds of winning as high as 34% on Saturday, second only to Bass and ahead of former reality TV star Spencer Pratt.

Raman jumped into the race just as County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath bowed out. Billionaire real estate developer Rick Caruso also confirmed he would not run after teasing a potential return to the race
