Exclusive | California Congresswoman Young introduces bill to establish Federal Fraud Interagency Task Force

California Rep. Kim Young will introduce a bill Monday to centralize federal fraud agencies and crack down on waste and abuse at the state and local levels.

Whether it’s the FBI, Homeland Security or financial institutions like the IRS, they’re all “tripping over each other while scammers run up the score,” Young told The California Post in an exclusive interview.

“We’re gonna have one quarterback on the field, one game plan and one goal, and that is to stop the fraud, cut through the bureaucracy and win back taxpayers money,” Young said. “It will require coordination across all different federal agencies so that they can investigate fraud involving federal dollars.” 

The No More Scams Act would require President Donald Trump to establish a federal fraud interagency task force within 90 days of enactment and to appoint a director within 180 days, according to a summary of the bill. 

In addition to centralizing the federal fraud agencies into one hub, the task force would coordinate with state and local law enforcement through data and resource sharing. It is unclear how many members will staff the task force.

“One agency, that is what I’m looking at,” Young said, adding that it will be staffed with “experienced law enforcement individuals who have done this kind of work.” 

Young said the catalyst behind the bill was witnessing what she described as rampant fraud in California, calling her state the “fraud capital of the world.” 

“It started from the COVID days and people didn’t even want to go back to work because they thought unemployment benefits were larger than going back and working,” the California Republican said. “That’s just beginning of it.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom has frequently pushed back on claims of rampant fraud in his state, most recently in light of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Dr. Oz declaring taxpayers are fueling a multi-billion dollar health care scheme in Los Angeles. 

“Gavin Newsom banned all new hospices beginning in 2022 and revoked 280+ licenses,” Newsom’s office said in a post on X.

Young told the Post that streamlining the mission of fighting fraud, waste and abuse under one agency will “allow American seniors, students, veterans, and families to for once be prioritized over criminals, illegal aliens, and fraudsters.”
