Former NBA Star Lamar Odom Checks Into Rehab After DUI Arrest: He’s Being ‘Proactive About His Wellbeing’

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 29, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Lamar Odom has checked into a rehabilitation facility following his DUI arrest earlier this month.

The retired NBA player, 46, “made the personal decision” to enter a 30-day treatment program at the iRely Recovery facility in Los Angeles to “reset and focus on his health,” Odom’s manager Gina Rodriguez told Us Weekly in a statement on Wednesday, January 28. (TMZ was first to report the news.)

“After a recent incident, he took a step back to reflect and address triggers he’s been dealing with,” Rodriguez said of Odom. “He’s taking full responsibility and choosing to be proactive about his wellbeing.”

The statement concluded: “Lamar is grateful for the support and is committed to moving forward in a healthy, positive way.”

Odom’s rehab stay comes after Us confirmed earlier this month that he was arrested in Las Vegas on January 17.

The former Los Angeles Lakers player was booked for allegedly driving under the influence, speeding and executing an improper lane change, according to an arrest record viewed by Us.

Odom was later granted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 17, for the case.

Over the past decade, Odom has been vocal about his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction after his near-fatal overdose in 2015.

Odom overdosed on cocaine and opiates while at a legal brothel in Las Vegas that left him comatose. He later revealed he had suffered 12 strokes and two heart attacks after taking the drugs.

At the time, Odom was going through a divorce from Khloé Kardashian, who pressed pause on the legal case to be by his side during his recovery. (She initially filed for divorce in 2013 after getting married in 2009. Kardashian, 41, refiled in May 2016 after Odom was out of the hospital and it was finalized that year.)

“I was home by myself. Bored. I wanted to get out and have a good time,” Odom recalled exclusively to Us in March 2017 of what led to the overdose. “Looking back, I might have had a drink to get the mood started, but was I drunk or on drugs? Not at all. I remember lying in bed. Two women were in bed and then I fell asleep. That’s all. When I woke up four days later, I was trying to pull the tubes out of my mouth.”

The former athlete called himself a “walking miracle” after the near-death experience. Odom noted he was surprised to see Kardashian committed to helping him get better even though they were separated.

“She was the first thing I saw. She said, ‘Hi, Mookah,’” Odom told Us of waking up to Kardashian. “‘Mookah’ is a name my mother used to call me. She said it to let me know I wasn’t dead. She played a major role in me getting my memory back.”

Odom explained that Kardashian discovered he was using cocaine in 2011 and that reckless drug use played a part in their divorce.

“Lamar was and is definitely someone that I felt was the love of my life,” Kardashian revealed on a February 2025 episode of The Kardashians. “I got married when I was 24 and although him and I got married 30 days to the day we met, I loved him with all of my heart and soul. I took my vows very seriously and I was married for about seven years. But there were bigger things that were not fixable in that marriage.”

Odom, for his part, took a moment to reflect on his road to addiction, telling Us in May 2019, “I’m pretty sure I’m probably still dealing with [childhood trauma].”

He pointed to his rough upbringing as one of the reasons he turned to substance abuse.

“We take a 12-year-old and take his mother away from him, I mean, those are words that are still healing — if they’re ever healed then I’m lucky. I’m just here to give testimony that it’s worth living,” Odom concluded.

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse, contact the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
