Patriots star Christian Barmore’s arraignment postponed ahead of Super Bowl 2026

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 27, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore had his arraignment for a domestic assault case postponed until after Super Bowl 2026 on Feb. 8.

The legal proceeding was originally scheduled for Feb. 3, but a judge approved a request from Barmore’s attorney last week to have it moved to March 9, the Boston Globe reported — a date well clear of New England’s Feb. 8 Super Bowl 2026 date with the Seahawks.

Barmore’s attorney David E. Meier wrote in the motion that he “requires additional time to discuss the matter with Mr. Barmore and to properly and responsibly prepare for the arraignment hearing.”

The Pats’ defensive tackle is facing one misdemeanor count of assault and battery on a family or household member related to an alleged incident that occurred on Aug. 8.

Barmore is accused by a woman, identified as someone that was dating the NFL player and shares a 2-year-old daughter with him, of grabbing her and pushing her to the floor, and when she attempted to get up, he grabbed her by her shirt near her neck.

The incident started over an argument about the air conditioning temperature in the apartment and escalated when she attempted to get her belongings to leave.

A police report was filed on Aug 25. And the woman told police she waited to report the incident due to “fear of Christian and his ‘handlers’ especially since he is wealthy and an NFL player,” the Globe reported.

Police said the woman provided them with a photo of bruising that was allegedly from the assault.

The legal development comes weeks after a judge granted a postponement to Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs, moving his arraignment for an alleged assault of his personal chef, to Feb. 13.

Meier denied the accusations on behalf of Barmore in a statement released in December.

“We are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that no criminal conduct took place,” the statement read. “Based on the facts and the law, we expect that this personal matter will be resolved in the near future and both parties will move forward together.”

The Patriots, at the time, said they were “aware” of the incident.

“The Patriots were made aware at the time of the incident and informed the NFL in a timely manner. The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process,” the team said in part. “We will respect that process, continue to monitor the situation closely, as we have over the past few months, and cooperate fully with the league. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Barmore was drafted by the Patriots in 2021 and started 16 of 17 games during the 2025 season.
