Trump makes 4 demands to end Minneapolis chaos, calls on Congress to ban sanctuary cities

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 26, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

WASHINGTON — President Trump made four demands Sunday of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and other Democratic elected officials across the country to try to quell the “flames of Division, Chaos, and Violence” that have gripped Minneapolis in recent weeks.

“All of these requests are rooted in COMMON SENSE, and will provide the best possible circumstances to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump declared on Truth Social.

“The Trump Administration is standing by, and waiting for ANY Democrat to do the right thing, and work with us on these important matters of MAKING AMERICA SAFE like it is in all sections of our Country where we are, together with Local Leadership, participating and involved.”

The four demands:

  • Turn over illegal immigrants in local jails or subject to arrest warrants to the feds.
  • Have state and local law enforcement commit to turning illegal immigrants over to the feds.
  • Make local police help the feds track down and detain illegal immigrants wanted for crimes.
  • Partner with the feds to “protect American Citizens in the rapid removal of all Criminal Illegal Aliens in our Country.”

Additionally, Trump called on Congress to pass legislation abolishing sanctuary city policies in the US, which he called the “root cause of all of these problems.”

Last week, US Attorney General Pam Bondi demanded Walz share Minnesota’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid data, repeal sanctuary policies, and allow the Justice Department’s Division on Civil Rights access to voter rolls.

Walz scoffed at Bondi’s demands during a press conference Sunday, telling the AG: “There’s 2 million documents in the Epstein files we’re still waiting on. Go ahead and work on those.”

The Minnesota governor also knocked calls for the state to hand over illegal immigrants in its jails.

“They’re taking credit for people that we’ve had in jail for a long time. We always hand them over,” he added. “They’re lying.”

Trump “border czar” Tom Homan, whom the president said he would dispatch to Minnesota on Monday night, has publicly cited access to local jails as a top demand of the administration.

“I am sending Tom Homan to Minnesota tonight,” Trump announced on Truth Social Monday. “He has not been involved in that area, but knows and likes many of the people there. Tom is tough but fair, and will report directly to me.”

Late last year, the Trump administration began Operation Metro Surge, which has resulted in some 3,000 Immigration and Customs Enforcement and US Customs and Border Protection personnel flooding Minneapolis, according to Frey.

The immigration crackdown came in response to concerns about massive welfare fraud roiling Minnesota. Protests have erupted across the Twin Cities in response to the surge of federal law enforcement.

ICE’s fatal shooting of Renee Good, 37, on Jan. 7 after she accelerated her SUV in an officer’s direction and Border Patrol’s fatal shooting Saturday of Alex Pretti, also 37, have amplified unrest in the city.
