Indiana has created a whole new brand of Cinderella story

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 10, 20262 ViewsNo Comments

There is no comparison to what we have seen from Indiana and Curt Cignetti.

Forget the on-field dominance for a moment, and it is impressive in its own right, Indiana having outscored the opposition by a whopping 473 points through 15 games. It is the largest point differential in the College Football Playoff era.

Consider where the Hoosiers were just two years ago, before the hiring of Cignetti. They went 3-9. The season before that, they were 4-8. In 2021, their record was even worse: 2-10. Entering this season, Indiana held the record for most Division I football losses with 715.

This went beyond irrelevance. They were a Big Ten punching bag. Now, Indiana is doing the punching. In two seasons, Cignetti has led the Hoosiers to a 26-2 record. Last year was just the starting point, a trip to the College Football Playoff and an 11-2 record. Indiana finished 10th in the final rankings that year, its best finish since 1967.
