Amazon Prime customers still have a chance to get in on the $2.5B FTC settlement

News RoomBy News RoomJanuary 7, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Millions of Amazon Prime customers have already received settlement refunds over the holidays — but there’s still a chance to get your cut.

If you have yet to receive a settlement check from Amazon, you may still be eligible to file a claim.

Eligible customers can now file a claim as part of the company’s $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

The settlement consists of $1 billion in civil penalties and $1.5 billion to go directly to eligible Prime subscribers, capped at $51 per person.

The FTC accused Amazon of deceiving customers into signing up for Prime subscriptions while intentionally making it difficult to cancel, which the company neither admitted to nor denied.

The first wave of payments were sent out via email from Amazon between Nov. 12 and Dec. 24 with a refund available to accept through Venmo or PayPal.

However, those who did not receive an email still have a chance to get their share of the settlement.

The FTC said Amazon will mail a check to the default shipping address that’s listed on the customer’s Prime subscription — and they just opened a claims process on Monday.

Eligible customers will be notified by Jan. 23.

Subscribers must have unintentionally signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, to be eligible for a refund, or unsuccessfully tried to cancel.

They will have to have been US Prime customers who have used no more than three Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrollment.

The FTC also warned customers to be wary of potential fraud, noting that no FTC representations will contact about a refund.

“The FTC is not contacting people about refunds in the Amazon matter,” the agency’s website said. “If you get a call from someone who claims to be from the FTC, it’s a scam.”
